1) Playoff Predictions, Reviews:
Written: Give a short write up of one or multiple playoff matches. If completed before the airing of the sims, give your predictions; if it is afterwards, give a review of the game.
It’s a Tuesday. For some, it is another lazy, boring day of self-isolation. Streets are quiet, freeways have almost no cars, grocery stores are making patrons come in a few shoppers at a time as people struggle to maintain their personal sanity and 6’.. Tomorrow, however, is the Ultimini. And for some, it is a dream. The Kansas City Coyotes will take on the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers for the 3rd time this year. Previously, the Bucs handled the Coyotes, winning both games handily. Myrtle Beach players, as has been their calling card, has been vocal about their status as favorites, treating this game like another week in the DSFL. The Coyotes, meanwhile, know what is at stake. They have flipped last year’s abysmal 5-9 record while steadily having one of the most explosive offenses and giving up the fewest points in the league. These young Coyotes, along with a few key holdovers from last year, are hungry and ready to attack. On offense, the Coyotes look to their quarterback (and GM) Chika Fujiwara, who had the best quarterback season this year. She will be throwing to her #YeetSquad, a stable of talented receivers and tight end They are so do deep that, last week’s standout was Jamie Watson, the 4th WR on the KC depth chart. The Coyotes’ offense is balanced, however, with a ground attack led by the explosive Andrew Nova. On defense, the Coyotes have playmakers, starting with line book-ended by Chip Otle and Patrik Money. The Coyotes will look to linebackers Sean O’Donohue and Fawn Dilmiballs to keep the Bucs runners from getting too many yards. Behind them is a talented secondary led by S Jon Bois and CB Chester Sweets. Bois made plays all season long and Sweets, along with CB Jeremy Quellers, helped the Coyotes lock down the outside. One special teams, K/P Matty “Ice” McDairmid will look to keep the Bucs offense on their heels. While the Bucs are talented, McDairmid will force them to work with a long field. As prolific as the KC offense has been this year, they have struggled to find the endzone and McDairmid will be a part of keeping them racking up the points. Its sure to be a tough game with great players on both sides. But this time, the Coyotes leave with the W and the Ultimini.
3) X-Factor
Written: Predict one player on a playoff team who you feel will make the biggest impact and push that team into the championship. Choose someone besides your own player for this task.
This could have easily been a response for Task #4, an OL or K/P Appreciate post. I refuse, however, to be forced to celebrate one of my guys as if he's different than the rest of us. Instead, I’m going to tell you why I love our kicker and, more importantly, why he is going to be the difference-maker for the Kansas City Coyotes against Myrtle Beach in the Ultimini. You see, MB has pretty steadily handled KC twice this year, both at home and on the road. Not only has MB won, but they have controlled the entire time these two teams met this season. They have won by an average score of 25-13, almost two full scores. The Coyote offense struggled and MB has had their way, particularly on the ground, while they had the ball.. This time, however, Matty “Ice AKA Ice Cube” McDairmid (@Matty7478 ) is going to be the special weapon that is able to flip the game in the Coyotes’ favor. McDairmid recently supplanted incumbent Lefty Louis and will use his cannon of a leg to both enable KC to score points from far and pin the Bucs back deep and punts and kickoffs. Last game, he had a monstrous 72-yarder that flipped field, punting from deep in his own territory and giving the opposing offense a long way to go for a score. With Kansas City’s struggles on both sides of the ball, McDairmid will need to be effective with his opportunities to give his team a chance to win. Field goals will need to be automatic and he needs to make the Bucs offense drive the length of the field to score. Otherwise, KCC is in big trouble. The positive note to all this pressure riding on McDairmid? He doesn’t care and he’s going to deliver.
11) Rivalry
Written: Which team or player would you consider to be your greatest rival? Write 200 words on why you are rivals with them and why you want them to lose (don’t harass other users please).
Being my first year in the KC and the frequent changes made in the DSFL, I was unaware of any rivals the Coyotes had before I came in. Coming off a 5-9 season, its hard to have a rival. It was soon made clear, however. Coming off an Ultimini appearance, the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers quickly found themselves as the focus of the Coyotes’ attack. MB has a locker room of brash, loud-mouth players who aren’t shy to open their mouths about other people. In one of my first podcasts, in fact, an MB player came on and, unprovoked, called out one of the best players in the league, Coyotes’ DT Phat Boi. While the Coyotes have celebrated their recent success, the Bucs have maintained a disrespectful tone, treating the upcoming ‘Mini like a walk-in-the-park.On a less personal level, the league has been riddled with rumors of the Buccaneers tampering with players on other teams, encouraging selfish behavior from players up to and including refusing to play or demanding a trade to the Beach! Not only are they an on-field rival for the Coyotes, but their off-field tactics drag the DSFL name through the mud, sullying the reputation of every professional connected to the league. Their lack of regard for themselves, other teams, and HO is unforgivable. When they find the field with the Coyotes, they’re going to pay.
12) Pay It Forward
Written: Write about someone in this league who you look up to or who you think of as a friend. Why do they deserve to be lauded?
I like to take opportunities like this to acknowledge people who don’t normally get the limelight. And there have not been a shortage of those folks in my first year: my teammate who helped me get the sim working; a couple S22 DBs whom I’ve gotten to know and shared experiences with, HO staff who have helped me through time I’ve struggled. With this task, however, I have to take the opportunity to highlight the efforts and kindness of my GM, Starboy. He is the most consistent person in the Coyotes locker room, almost always there with a positive attitude or the information you’re seeking. With all of the idiots in his locker room, it seems like his patience is endless and his warmth like that of a nursing mother, her tit swelling in anticipation of feeding her babe. Oh wait, sorry.. Starboy. Is awesome. While I am close the the NSFL draft, Star has served as an anchor, willing to give his insight and outlook while encouraging me to be curious and ask my own questions. This coming year, I’m on my way to another team and Starboy’s player, QB Chika Fujiwara, will be a Baltimore Hawk. I am looking for a new opportunity and place where I can make my home on my own. But I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t love to be there with Starboy.
