Bjørn Ironside Calling It Quits

How do you say goodbye to Bjørn Ironside?

At this point, there is little doubt I have mentored many during my time here; it is, in fact, part of my job description. But Bjørn holds a special place in my heart, because he was one of the first. Since Bjørn entered this league, he reminded me so much of my own precious player, Bubba Thumper, and indeed, as Bjørn reflected Bubba, so too did it seem @IsaStarcrossed reflect me. He shared the same enthusiasm I entered this league with, and he showed the same drive to succeed, to be the best he could be. But ultimately, I can say with some degree of certainty that I was wrong to say he reflected me. He is so much more than that. Bjørn quickly and easily surpassed the bar set by Bubba, and so too did Isa surpass me in every single way. I take great pride in that now; I am fortunate that I was able to play even a small role in the development of both Bjørn and Isa, and I am thrilled to have seen the both of them prosper.

So, how do I say goodbye to Bjørn? The honest answer: tearfully, but with a smile on my face. It is sad to see my first mentee make his way back to the mountains, but I know that more greatness is yet to come from the user he leaves behind.

And, of course, it gives me comfort that I can at least best Bjørn in terms of longevity.

Dammit, Woelker. I said I was gonna cry after this retirement and now here I am. Love you man, can't wait to see Thumper in the hall of fame.
