I have always been a supporter of kicker mafia, even if the leaders of the organization wish to hold me back and not accept me as an equal member. Nevertheless, I am here to talk about a new budding member of a new age, much cooler kicker mafia. That would be Kansas City kicker and top S22 kicking prospect Matty McDairmid.
McDairmid made the playoffs with the top seeded North division Coyotes. His regular season stats were hard to gauge. He was almost never used as a field goal kicker, instead being exclusively used as the team's punter. All that changed in the playoffs however, where after Lefty Louis sustained an injury, McDairmid and his 4 for 5 on collective career DSFL extra points and field goals would be put to the test.
What were the results? Perfection! Matty converted on all 5 of his extra points and hit from both 39 yards and 46 yards out, showing he was more than up to the task of doing it all for whatever NSFL team chose to draft him. He was also adept at punting, though that should come as no surprise. He maintained a godly 51.9 punting yard average on 13 punts throughout the playoffs, with a long of 72 and pinning 2 of them inside the 20
So @Raven did his piece on me, so I feel like its only fair that i repay the favor.
Why do I think Raven should be praised? He has been an absolute madlad. To keep in mind, this league was started in May of 2017. Raven was a banker then, and has never stopped since. That is an insanely long time to hold a job in a row. On top of that, he has been HO in this league as well, one that I really enjoyed having around. When he wasnt HO with me, he has been a great friend and place to vent about frustrating stuff that happened. We may not always agree but he has always conducted himself as a model sim league "citizen" so to speak.
As a friend, Raven has had an impact that he probably doesnt know. Obviously probably anyone who knows me knows that me and Raven get along. But even many people outside of the league know about Raven, even if they dont know his name or username. I talk about him so much actually that many people when i tell a story about something my friend did, that they will ask me "is that your friend from the Netherlands?" Which I have always found pretty funny haha
Honestly its hard for me to remember a happy time for me in the league haha. I think the best time I can think of is week one of the first ever season. Allow me to paint a picture for you:
I had just been named as a GM. Me and my co-GM I knew nothing about Bushito, who would quickly go inactive lol, prepared for the draft. We got our people and despite a very controversial first round pick, that calmed down and we thought things were going well. However, the public was much less kind to us. Articles projected us at the bottom of the league, season predictions most popularly had Arizona as the team in the ASFC that would miss the playoffs, and to make matters even worse, we were unable to win any of the 4 preseason games we played. Things were looking bad for us.
Then Week 1 comes around. Us, the doormat of the league, were set to play the Orange County Otters, everyone's projected favorites. They were also one of the most vocal teams against us. We were talking about how we would win to our team in the locker room, but I wasnt super confident.
What happened next is one of the greatest moments that should never be forgotten. Our secondary, ranked the lowest by someone I have now forgotten, managed to pick of legendary Mike Boss SIX times! We won the game 27-12 in such a dominating fashion that we were the talk of the league for the whole day. It was an exhilarating feeling, one I wish I could recreate.
