Interview a star - NicholasTheGreat (Bruce Buckley)
1. How does it feel to come off winning the trophy in your rookie year? Do you feel more pressure to succed in the NSFL as a result?
It was one of the greatest feelings in the world and probably the best i have felt in my entire life. It was my first time playing competitive football and to win straight away was absolutely incredible. The feeling of winning the Ultimini will drive me to replicate that in the NSFL, there isn't pressure to win but there is an expectation almost".
2. Do you think that if you are drafted into a losing team from a winning team enviornment, that transition would be difficult to do?
I would see it as a challenge to transform the new team. I know i am able in my abilities and my plan is to spread that knowledge and attitude to my teammates in my new environment. It may be a difficult transition but i will get over it as to ensure my team has the best potential player they can get from me
3. What about the Murtle Beach Buccaners will you miss the most? Which player or member of staff was the biggest positive influence on your growth as a player?
The locker room culture and environment is absolutely the best part about the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers. There are a lot of great people in there who want to get the best for everyone and themselves. They are encouraging the best out of everyone. It is incredibly difficult to pick one player that was the biggest influence on me but to include some of them i have to look at Frost, Evans, Egghands and of course Cory.
4. Now going onto the NSFL league, do you ever see yourself going back home to Australia to play your football?
I can't see myself personally going back to Australia to play professional football. As much as i miss the place and my family and friends, the set up for American Football is completely basic to the NSFL. I'm here to become the greatest lineman to play the game and i need to do that in the greatest league, the NSFL is the greatest league.
Sponsorship
It is with great pleasure that we have heard recently of Kai Sakura’s first sponsorship deal, with home-entertainment mega bran, Nintendo, in a recent ad campaign. Whilst Kai was glad to detail to us about how ecstatic he was to be able to promote one of his home countries most notable brands, as well as a brand he fully supports as an avid gamer, he also gave us a few insights into what the ad, and specifically his role, will be. Kai went on to explain the ad was to be targeted towards adolescents and young professional couples, the type of people who are starting to live their life but still haven’t got the full responsibilities of an older adult and hence still have downtown to paly some games. Nintendo brought in Kai since they saw him as a high prospect for the DSFL, he could represent his own nation whilst pushing himself out to a new audience. Kai explained that his role in the ad was that similar to a model. “For the most part, all I had to do was sit on the couch they had on set and play a few different games and just really enjoy it. It was pretty easy since I already enjoy playing the games they wanted me to demonstrate. It was such a good introduction to the ad world.” We can’t wait to see what this suberb young talent looks like in hopefully the first of many ads. We wish him luck in his journey in the advertisement world.
Scouting Report - Kai Sakura
Kai is one of the 10 Wide Receiver prospects who are currently throwing their hat into the ring for the S22 DSFL draft. He, like 5 other wide receiver prospects, role is a speed receiver, meaning he has more competition heading into the draft compared to the three route runners and lone RedZone threat receiver that are also in the draft. Whilst highly contended, Kai’s work ethic has seen him achieve the higher end of TPE, giving him an advantage over some of his competition that may potentially see his stocks rise in the eyes of the DSFL general managers. An interesting note about Kai, is that he is open to flexing or transitioning to another role, even saving the TPE he has earnt to adapt if asked upon by the team that picks him up. This flexibility that he offers could be the point of difference that sells Kai over other Wide receivers in the class and gives him more appeal as he openly demonstrates his team first nature.
Whilst anything can happen in the draft, Kai is a solid prospect that has many upsides with limited downsides to any team that may pick him up. Look for him to go in the early-mid rounds of the draft as a good workhorse and potential gem for the team that decides to draft him.
