18) Awards Season
I believe my London Royals teammate, Derred De Ville deserves the Defensive MVP Award. Derred was all over the field this year. Playing on an expansion team in its first year isn't easy but Derred was a true leader on and off the field. He racked up on the stat sheet recording 147 tackles, 9 sacks, 1 interception and 2 fumble recoveries. The 147 tackles were good for 2nd as were his 9 sacks. Only 1 other player recorded over 100 tackles and 8 sacks for the season. He was also stout in pass coverage with 8 passes defended and accounted for 3 totals turnovers - 1 interception and 2 forced fumbles while recovering both. In week 11 vs the Bucs, De Ville recorded an astounding 18 tackles. In the week 1 win over the Dallas Birddogs, he recorded 3 sacks showing off his elite pass rushing skill. De Ville will be a star in the NSFL and is projected by many to go in the top 10 of this year's draft. He continually showed the ability to disrupt the passer, make tackles in space and cover TEs or RBs when asked to. He was a true ball hawk this season and should continue to strike fear into opposing offensive coordinators for years to come.
19) Team Culture
I love the team culture at the London Royals. As a first year expansion team, we were always the underdogs but that gave us a scrappy, fighting attitude. We missed the playoffs this year but it wasn't a complete disaster of a first season. We finished with a record of 5-9 with some key wins over the Grey Ducks, Seawolves and Luchadores. Our GMs, Deadly Player and Modern Duke, are very helpful to the entire team and always around to answer questions. There were many times were I wasn't sure where to line up or what assignment I had and they were always there to help guide me. The locker room is full of all kinds of characters too. Acura Skyline and Ben Stackinpaper like to play pranks on people like farting in their cereal or pissing in their shampoo bottles. Ed Ball and Bick Kaepercolin were the more serious one's in the locker room. They almost came to blows a few times with Skyline and Stackinpaper over a whip cream incident. Although we like to have fun, we also like to win. With many of our players looking to get drafted and move onto the NSFL, next year will be another challenging year for the Royals. We just have to remember the ultimate goal is the championship and to keep our eyes on the prize.
16) Scouting Report
Simeon Works is an upcoming NSFL draft prospect who played last season on the DSFL's London Royals. While works didn't have a massive statistical season, he was an anchor for a defensive line that featured 2 all star caliber linebackers in Sandro Ryeu and Derred De Ville. It could be argued that without Works and his fellow Defensive Lineman commanding double teams and holding up blockers that these 2 all pro linebackers would not have been able to have the huge statistical season they had. Works recorded 29 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 3 sacks over 14 games. In week 3 vs the Seawolves, he recorded 2 stops behind the line of scrimmage. He also recorded 2 tackles for loss in week 9 vs the Luchadores. Works has good speed and acceleration off the snap. He is stronger than most give him credit for. What he likes currently is endurance and lateral agility. Works needs to continue improving his agility if he hopes to shed blockers in the NSFL. Works has been training in the offseason with famed trainer, Jeff Goldblum and the Goldblum Performance Institute in Tampa, Florida. Works has the versatility to play either defensive end or outside linebacker and the next level. He will benefit most from a team that will put him in multiple positions to succeed in rushing the passer.
17) Sponsorships
Simeon Works was contacted by Big Mike's Meat Warmers to appear in their upcoming Ultimus commercial ad. The ad will feature other big names like Lebron James and Shaquille O'Neil. The ad is rumored to have cost between $8-$10 million dollars to produce. Combine that with the $3 million cost to actually air the ad inside the Ultimus, this could be the most expensive commercial campaign ever. The ad starts off in a grocery store with Shaq, Lebron and Simeon sitting in the deli aisle. Shaq says to Simeon, "do you like cold cuts". Simeon responds that he only likes his meats warm and Lebron, dressed as cupid in a diaper, flies down from the ceiling and presents his Big Meat Warmer. The Meat Warmer comes in 3 different sizes, Black, White and Yellow. Shaq then slaps Simeon in the face with a foot long salami and they both begin to chuckle. Simeon jams his salami into the meat warmer and prepares to salivate. Lebron sets off the fire alarm and the sprinklers start going off. The Big Meat Warmer turns into a transformer and extinguishes the flames with his built in white foam. The camera cuts back to Simeon and Shaq shoveling warm salami into their mouths and high-fiving. Simeon then says "call Big Big Mike for the biggest and best Meat Warmers in the business"
