I am choosing to write about the Austin Copperheads because they have had quite the interesting season. With a good offseason the team had put themselves into a position to battle for supremacy atop the dominant ASFC. Notable additions like running back Ryan Leaf Jr. had many NSFL fans excited for both their real life prospects and their players' fantasy futures. Easton Cole was a hot pick in fantasy drafts and users had high expectations going into week one. Unfortunately for the Copperheads, they opened up the season tying the Arizona Outlaws. Granted, they were on the road, but Austin was seen as the better team so a tie was not ideal. They followed that tie up next week with a loss to the expansion team Honolulu Hahalua which no one saw coming (I mean Honolulu would go on to lose against Chicago!). The offense did not break 20 points in their second game against weak competition and something had to change for the team.
I believe this is about the time that Easton Cole switched his build to the new meta Game Manager Franklin Armstrong clone build. It makes sense, Cole had a ton of TPE but was underperforming with his last build, so the switch was much needed in the team's eyes. They would lose week 3 at home to the Otters, but that is not too surprising in the scheme of things. They followed that up with a big win at home over the New Orleans Second Line which would be a turning point in the season. You may ask me, but Sloth, did they not lose their next two games after that? Yes you would be correct as they did lose to the San Jose Sabercats and the Philadelphia Liberty the next two weeks, but they at least proved that they could beat a top team.
The Copperheads would ride that confidence to 7 straight victories to wrap up the season in the ASFC's conference second place spot. They started that run with a blowout win over the other expansion team Sarasota. Then they got a close win on the road in Baltimore against the Hawks where their defense played well. After stomping out the Hahalua in their second meeting, the Copperheads went on the road into Orange County and stole a win from the Otters 28-20. Two easy wins against New Orleans and San Jose would wrap up the Copperheads' regular season and they would go into the playoffs with a lot of confidence. They would use that confidence well and prevail at home over the New Orleans Second Line, ending their championship reign. Now they look to capture the franchise's second Ultimus in their short history.

I think Ben Slothlisberger should be voted for defensive MVP of the DSFL, or at the very least receive a nomination, because he really did a lot to help opposing defense this season. Ben, while he owned the DSFL's best completion percentage by a wide margin (he completed 62.7% of his passes versus second place's 58.9% and his backup's 57.9% with the same cast around him), he still turned the ball over way too much. Slothlisberger only threw 6 touchdowns last season and handed out a whopping 9 interceptions to opposing defenses. While combined those numbers are nice, the 9 interceptions was tied for fourth most in the DSFL (two quarterbacks with more attempts had less interceptions than him, sad). This made Ben a vital piece to other opposing defenses and contributes to his strong defensive MVP cause. Then you add in Slothlisberger's paltry rushing stats and the case becomes stronger. He only averaged 2.4 yards a carry last season, and in 9 attempts only 1 ended up in a touchdown. That gave him a total of 22 rushing yards on the season, yikes.
Defenses did not really have to worry about Slothlisberger's legs so that is probably why he threw so many interceptions. But this just shows that he was even more key to opposing defenses, so he should at least get a defensive MVP nomination. I think that's how the awards work.

Create an argument for your own player, or for someone else on your team, as to why they should be nominated for awards. Lay out their stats or compare them to other contenders. Make a convincing argument.
