Tier 2: Short Form Task (for total 5 TPE)
8) This task is exclusive to non-recreate rookies of the S22 class and later. In 400 words or more, how has your experience been in the league? Who have you met that has made your time here more fun, friendly, and exciting? Have you been satisfied with your player’s early start? What was it like being drafted for the first time? Do you have any comments or suggestions for the entire league that you think should be implemented?
For the last month or so I’ve been watching Amidships progress through the DSFL in his rookie season. I admit, whenever I looked over his shoulder to see what he was up to I didn’t immediately see the appeal. We’ve played a lot of different forum based games together in the past and this just kind of looked like another one of those, with what looked like a pretty confusing system for player progression.
Sometime within the last couple of weeks, he mentioned that the time was ripe for player creation and I should dive in and give it a try to see what it’s all about. He walked me through the basics and gave me a rough idea of how to get started. I was somewhat skeptical, but figured I’d give it a shot and created Zoe Watts. Why a kicker? It just kind of appealed at the time. Normally I would go for WR or something kind of flashy like that, but I didn’t know how much time I would dedicate to this or if I would even like it. I figured kickers are neat, I could play fairly casually and also just had some good player renders in mind.
Despite only being here a short time, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the league so far. I haven’t even been drafted yet and I’m already super excited to get more involved in different ways. The community, while sometimes a little quirky, has been very warm and welcoming and eager to share stories, stats, tips for improving your player, and so many other things (Bex was among the first to welcome me and help me out with a point task - thanks Bex!).
I thought it was really cool to get picked up off waivers by the Birddogs and play on the same team as Ships and Tonzy for a while, but I didn’t count on the locker room as a whole being as awesome as it is. I played only four games with them, but never felt as though I wasn’t a part of that team. I’m really grateful to them for that and hope to continue bothering them here and there going forward.
As far as my player’s start goes, I do kind of wish my first few games in the league had gone better. I pushed to get some early TPE to help the Birddogs out in their playoff race and managed to boost my kick accuracy and power a little beyond where their previous kicker’s stats.. but the sim wasn’t kind and I missed some really important kicks that, I think, could have led to a very different playoff race. But, that’s life and I hope to do a lot better going forward.
Most recently, I picked up a job with the Player Progression Team. I’m really looking forward to learning more and getting involved from that aspect as well. I’m hoping as I get more involved I can help to make the league an enjoyable experience for the players that come after us.
