7) With such an overall high-level performance over the last 2 years, I really feel like Jacob Small can be a huge underdog story and a very successful kicker for many years to come. After spending 2 full seasons as the man punting and kicking every ball that came his way for the Tijuana Luchadores in the DSFL, he is finally ready for his next step, becoming the starting punter and kicker for the Sarasota Sailfish. He was drafted #116 overall in Round 14, a very low start with a huge amount of growth. He sat there for 14 rounds as kicker after kicker was selected before him. But the Luchadores selected right and got themselves one of the only few top-tier kicker from the 2036 Developmental Draft, a brilliant selection especially so far down in the draft.
In his first year, Small was awarded Tijuana Luchadores Offensive Player of the Game, he was
a nominee for Kicker of the Year (DSFL), and a nominee for Punter of the Year (DSFL), and he capped it off with an SFC Pro Bowl Selection (DSFL). Those awards had the stats to boot with 33 for 36 on Extra Points, and 17 for 21 on Field Goals as well as a great showing as punter. And while he was successful in his journey for a championship or Kicker or Punter of the year. He made sure coming just short would push him to work harder the next season.
Then another season started and the NSFL Draft was underway. He sat there for 10 Rounds and 110 Picks before the Expansion Sarasota Sailfish picked up their kicker of the future. He worked his ass off throughout the season in the DSFL with the Tijuana Luchadores to show Sarasota that they made the right choice drafting Small. While the season stats did not show much room for improvement as he had originally hoped for... he kicked more field goals and extra points than he did the previous year, to show he could handle the workload. His stats of 34 for 37 on Extra Points and 22 for 27 were not as accurate as he had hoped for throughout the season, but overall his kicking helped propel the Tijuana Luchadores to the Playoffs and the #1 seed. While we still wait for the announcement on nominations, Jacob Small was awarded Week 10 Offensive Player of the Game with a perfect performance of 3 for 3 on the game. The future will be interesting for this man, and hopefully, he'll have a Kicker of the Year award to show for it when he reaches the NSFL.
