As a expansion team, the Sarasota Sailfish made it the playoffs on their inaugural year in the league. This is a great feat for an expansion team but unfortunately, they did get eliminated in the first round to the eventual champions, the Colorado Yeti.
Here is a few basic run downs of the Sailfish's strengths and weakness,
The strengths:
Amazing number one running back and an amazing number one wide receiver
Young core in the middle of the defense
Veteran corner backs
A strong defensive end
The weakness:
Regressing safety
Retired young safety
No quarterback
I feel like the Sailfish will make a ton of moves in the draft. They have plenty of draft capital even after the Rose Jenkins trade. But they have younger players signed that they'll look to extend. And this year's free agency class does not look too promising. So most of these moves will be done via draft.
First thing that needs to be addressed and is probably the biggest need is Quarterback. Rose Jenkins, was a great 4 game rental from the Chicago Butchers to push the Sailfish to the playoffs and ultimately it did not result to a championship, and she will be retired after this season. It was great but it's not a good plan for the future. The two quarterbacks on the roster are both IA, which is a bummer since they were both young players. So, where do the Sailfish go from here? I think they should have an active member make the switch to quarterback. It will guarantee that the position will be solidified and stay active. They have plenty of players to choose from. In order to do that, they need to draft that position replacement.
Next position that they need to address is Safety. A team cannot make it far into the playoffs without a strong defense. With Thiath and his unexpected early retirement the Sailfish need to work on the safety position. They have plenty of 1st round picks and later draft capital to find one. There is a lot of good prospects to pick up in the secondary. They should find one there.
Lastly, to be a championship team, the Sailfish need depth. I think they need to add another running back, corner back, defense end, wide receiver and linebacker. These positions are needed to help the team be more versatile. If they could add more liquidity to the roster to try different styles of play. If the Sarasota Sailfish could adapt to it's opponents they could come out on top and win more games.
8) With a plethora of sim leagues available to us today, and with many different sports. I stumbled upon the national simulation football league through the r/NFL post on Reddit. Going into the league, I did not know what to expect, I just knew I liked football a lot and the prospect of a simulation league was interesting. At first, the forum was a little daunting, I haven't used a forum style website in years. So I it was a little difficult to find my away around and get started. But as soon as I joined the discord servers and eventual team servers, everything started to become a little easier with so many people being helpful. Gucci and Kyle for the Dallas Birddogs were extremely helpful in getting us season 22 rookies started and going.
As for fun, there is a huge range of players who made the league much more enjoyable, which include: Gucci, Kyle, Steg, Bayley, Edd, Jordy, Kim, Frost and RainDelay. All these people are super helpful and fun to talk to, so I was looking forward to logging in, talking and hanging out with everyone everyday.
For my player Haha Mango-Panda, he started as a quarter back originally. I didn't know, being a quarter back would take a ton of work but I eventually made the switch to a linebacker. I regret not starting my task earlier, I missed my first Ultimus task and I lagged behind a week but I've been max earning or trying to since. This could have cost me being drafted higher in the NSFL or DSFL draft. But otherwise, I am pretty happy with Haha's start and I hope I can take my first player to the championship.
During the draft, it was a unique experience. In my DSFL draft, I knew that I wasn't going to be drafted high. So I wasn't paying to close attention to what was going on but I was excited to be drafted by the Birddogs. I was in their locker room the most and interacted with both Gucci and Kyle the most. I was glad that I was drafted there, it made my experience a lot more fun. As far as the NSFL draft goes, I was excited and really getting into the league. I wanted to be drafted pretty high because I've been maxing out my earnings. I am also excited to join Sarasota to start to build something great.
For the league, I wish free agency could be reformed and a legal tampering be implemented. Lastly, I would like to see banking rebuilt instead of using the excel sheet.
