I think the Dallas Birddogs are on track for a great season. While pre-season is not always the best indicator of how the regular season will turn out, it’s worth noting the Birddogs came out strong nonetheless. Without the implementation of formal strategies, the team went 3 for 4 during the pre-season and showed up on both sides of the football.
On offense, the Birddogs have gained a dynamic running back duo in Zoe Watts and Bob Murphy. Watts, formerly a kicker and selected fourth overall in the DSFL draft, is poised to breakout and hit the TPE cap in just a few weeks, while Murphy has already proven to be a reliable receiving back for the team over the last season. During the pre-season, Watts and Murphy were able to earn a combined 672 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns.
The team also has high expectations for their rookie quarterback, Mattathias Caliban, who hit 60% of his targets in his pre-season debut. Veterans Luca Scabbia and Zee Rechs also continue to impress on the offensive side of the ball, giving the team plenty of reasons to be optimistic for the future.
The Birddogs are also well equipped with several weapons on the defensive side of the ball, including Tomage McGullager, Blade McCoy, Bradley Owens, Arik Eller, and another recent acquisition, Nerdy Name. During pre-season, the Birddogs defense averaged 52 tackles per game and recorded a total of 8 sacks and 11 interceptions.
Having narrowly missed the playoffs last season, it seems reasonable to go into this season with some optimism that the Birddogs could become playoff contenders. I really look forward to being a part of it and hope we can fight our way up to the final!
