This last draft was the first time I got to see an NSFL team’s war room during the drafting process. I had seen this at the DSFL level once before, but I’ll admit I was a little out of my depth and had a difficult time following what was going on. This time around, though, I was more familiar with the league, with the needs of the team, and with some of the prospects in the draft. We split the DSFL teams up among us and each scouted the players on the team we were assigned to and created some master lists of all players available, filtered by attributes such as positions, TPE, and stuff like that. After the scouting was finished is where the real fun began. A few days before the draft, each scout had a pretty good idea of who they wanted to take in what picks. It was fun seeing us going back and forth and arguing over which players we wanted to take. We were all respectful of each other, but it was clear that we all had different opinions and rankings of the players. It was exciting as picks and trade offers came in and I tremendously enjoyed the experience. I feel we had a strong draft and that it put us in a good position to be more competitive over the next few seasons.
