(S23) - PT2 - Draft Day

I'm gonna go way back for this one. The S9 NSFL Draft was my first one in this league, and it was an exciting time. I had one of the top prospects in terms of TPE and needed positions at LB. I'd decided to follow in 127415 from a different league to try this one out, made Kolby Deringer, and I got pretty invested quick, especially with how my guy wrecked shop in his first DSFL season. I was pretty pumped with him as a potential #1 pick.

Being honest, at the time, I wasn't terribly inclined to the idea of going to a rebuilding team like San Jose, though I knew there was a good chance they would take me as they owned the 1OA and 4OA picks. I'd go through the pieces on NSFL Media and have a look through their projected draft ranks and relished in the thoughts of going 1OA. I had already been hyped up after living up to being the 10OA pick in the S8 DSFL Draft, and was stoked on the thought of being a franchise cornerstone. When the SaberCats called me in, I was still plenty happy with going 4th. They probably wanted me to slot in right away, though at the time, I thought I'd enjoy the DSFL while I could. That changed the second time around with Rando.

Looking back on Deringer's career, that night helped set him up for a great career. He'd win Defensive Rookie of the Year in S10, go to several Pro Bowls, win an Ultimus as a pillar of a killer defense and get named Ultimus Defensinve Player of the Game in the Ultimus we otherwise don't talk about in Northern California. In the coming days, I hope that parlays to a Hall of Fame election.
