With the Tijuana Luchadores in Mexico representing the DSFL, it makes sense to have a NSFL representative there as well. The Luchadores success has built a sizeable following in Mexico, which can be leveraged to create an NSFL team in the largest market the country has to offer, Mexico City. All other sports may fall well short of soccer there, but the Mexican people are very proud and supportive of their local teams and would hopefully be quick to jump on the bandwagon of the new team in town.
The gameday experience would be like no other, well except for Tijuana of course. The crowd noise would be unrivaled. In the stands you would see various team banners and flags being waved proudly as the crowd chants to encourage their team. As a player, it would be tough not to be amped playing in an environment like that.
When choosing a mascot though, a few choices came to mind. The Inferno, to represent the unrelenting heat. The Diablos, another word with Latin origins, for the intimidation factor. Ultimately though, I felt the Aztecs would be the best fit for the team name due to their history.
So, welcome your newest NSFL franchise, the Mexico City Aztecs!
