I’ve had this team idea for awhile - in fact, it’s a team idea I had when I was a child making fake leagues in madden and in backyard football leagues. That team branding is the Ottawa Lynx. I think this branding would be good for the league for a few reasons.
The first reason is it’s a realistic location. It’s not halfway across the globe, and not too big to work with just like most of the other teams in our league (Orange County, Sarasota, Honolulu). The location would also work because it would give Yellowknife a geographical rival in Canada.
The second reason is Lynx is a sensible branding for Ottawa. Lynx are a mascot underutilized in the world. Lynx are also a very recognizable Canadian mascot, so it’s a mascot that actually works.
Finally, the branding color scheme is the final piece to the puzzle. For branding, I have two options - Green and White like the Michigan State Spartans, or Maroon and grey. Maroon and grey is a classic look, whereas the Green and White would be a more futuristic look. Either one would be floated and compared to each other.
All of this makes an attractive package for future expansion plans, and hopefully one that actually gets considered when I pitch it for future expansion.
