Ananda Adyan had an interesting journey coming towards the upcoming DSFL Season 25 draft. The 20-year-old offensive lineman from Jakarta, Indonesia had to fight hard for his chance as a prospect through flag football to the International Pathway Programme, being only a few who didn’t go through the traditional college football ranks.
“Football’s fun. There’s an aggressive yet respectful air surrounding it, even in a contactless sport like flag football. Being from a country where association football was more popular than American football, it was rather tricky to find such communities here in Indonesia. I had to create a team from scratch for my university, then track another football team in Jakarta once I graduate. The Pathway Programme was my only chance, and it worked. I gave it my all during the selection, and here I am today, ready to rumble come the Prospect Bowl and the draft.”
“Being out of your comfort zone, especially for someone who never travels as far as the United States before that can be quite daunting. You meet people from all sorts of places. You meet new coaches and other key staff that help you along the way. That experience is one of a kind, it couldn’t be replicated so easily. They helped me adapt to my new surroundings.”
When asked about his response on Crozier McCoy’s statement towards him and the rest of the Offensive Line prospects for the DSFL Season 25 draft, Adyan shrugged.
“I don’t mind the comments [McCoy] made about me and the rest of the OLs. I’ve come across several of my fellow Offensive Linemen, and I believe they are all talented to be in this draft. He could run his mouth anytime, but I’m just focusing on those who are scouting us, the teams, the scouts, the GMs; those who I am looking forward to interacting with, other than my fellow prospect.”
“OLs sometimes get the flak or often somewhat overlooked due to the nature of our position. They say we don’t post flashy stats or plays, and we’re simply there as a stop-gap for people like McCoy. Well, we’re not. We protect our QBs. Without strong, smart, and efficient blocking, the offensive line will break. That’s why those things are paramount for us. Our job is to hold whoever is coming at us, be it the defensive front 7, the safeties, the cornerbacks. We create the pocket for QBs to feel comfortable on either passing the ball or handing it off to our runner. We’ll make sure that ball will connect to our receivers. We’ll make sure that we move the chains.”
“Last but not least, let me reiterate this again. He could talk smack at me and my fellow prospects any time, but if he expects little to no retaliation about those comments from us, then in my own personal opinion, he’s dead wrong. I’ll let my hard work and earned results speak for itself on the gridiron. Words can only distract you so far. See you soon, McCoy. Looking forward to treating you to pancakes every so often.”
