If we did implement a rule where you can't vote for teammates to win the award, then a biased voter could vote their teammate 2nd and the worst candidate 1st to advantage their preferred candidate in a similar, but less effective way. I think people voting according to bias is much easier to fix than the current voting system personally.
But what do we do if someone from your team legitimately deserves the award? If YKW votes differently, I could have lost MVP to Cue (numbers wise I don't think I would have but it would have been close). I don't think a hard and fast rule is what we need in this case.
