The Norfolk Seawolves were riding high, this July. Of course z the whole league and all its affiliates know about one reason - our recent, glorious victory in the Ultimini - but that wasn't the only reason. No, hidden in the confines of the Norfolk locker room, was another wonder. Just as the Seawolves were banned DSFL champions, Norfolk's Counting eclipsed the 400 mark, and it kept right on rising. Those were heady days in Norfolk, days of celebration, days of optimism and light hearts. Five hundred, six hundred, seven hundred - we thought we could reach out and shake hands with the stars (except we wouldn't, because social distancing).
Seven hundred forty, seven hundred forty one, seven hundred forty two, seven hundred forty three, seven hundred forty four, seven hundred forty four - wait! No, that's not next! Out of nowhere, it hit us! From our lofty perch, we tumbled! Like Icarus, we flew too close to the sun, and for our hubris, we payed the price.
Babies wailed, children wept. Mother's looked at us with that knowing glance that says, "I warned you about doing that, didn't I?" Our moment of greatest glory was gone. Yes, we would forever be remembered as champions, but would we ever see seven hundred again?
