Let me tell you the story of a kind of fun what-if from my time as General Manager of the Orange County Otters. Back in the Season 9 draft, we really needed a linebacker, and there was one guy who I thought would have made an amazing fit both for our discord and our team: Kolby Deringer. Somehow he fell to the 4th overall pick in that draft and I was trying desperately to move up to get him. I offered Dawegg, the Sabercats GM at that time, our first rounder in that draft (8th overall), as well as a swap of our Season 10 1st for their Season 10 2nd. The two picks that we made with the selections I offered him were Ricky Adams and Danny Grithead, both future MVPs, though Grithead would go on to do so with Yellowknife. Still, both players were absolutely instrumental in our success from Seasons 12 thru 14, and helped us win back to back titles in Seasons 12 and 13. San Jose's Round 2 pick would wind up being the first of the round, which they used to select Xandra Troyski. No doubt the value would not have been bad if San Jose had accepted the deal, but we would not have found two eventual MVP winners and two of my favorite Otters from those seasons.
