Prompt Wrote:Written Option: After four weeks of league action (and one week of the league down under), some teams’ stocks are flying high while others have been driven low unexpectedly. In 200 words, discuss a particular team or player and demonstrate how their hypothetical stock has risen or fallen since the start of the season. Is the team facing unexpected issues or a flurry of success? Has the player regressed unexpectedly on the field or have they taken a step forward?
Seeing as I'm on the Copperheads, I think our progress through the first four week of this season has been much like the current stock market - hair-raising falls followed by big increases. For a team that had strong hopes of making it back to the Ultimus, dropping the first two games was rough. I think most people weren't expecting the SaberCats to a major contender this year, but they managed to take control early and keep it, outscoring us in each of the first three quarters. The next week, we were crushed scorewise by the Outlaws despite nearly identical passing and rushing yards and winning turnover battle. We did manage to hold them to just over 3 yards per rush, but they still were determined to keep running with 34 attempts which I guess was the recipe for success, somehow.
We then turned things around in a big way the next two games. Against Orange county, we squeaked out a win with some big passing plays and key turnovers, despite an ugly game on the penalty front. Alex Dasistwirklichseinnachname missing the third quarter extra point also ended up being critical, as otherwise we'd have been tied. And then week 4 vs. the Second Line we had an outstanding statistical game, winning time of possession for the first time, converting more than half our third downs, and averaging just about 5 yards per carry on 40 rushes. If we can keep that up, then I think we have a good future, but if our failures from earlier weeks reappear then I think we may be in for another crash.
