Paul DiMirio:
Another quite obvious choice as the number one for a position, DiMirio was long the most consistent and dominant Tight End in the game. DiMirio holds the record for most catches in league history with 1110 while being 5th in yards and 9th in touchdowns. DiMirio ends up in 2nd place in history for most Pro Bowl appearances for any positions with 12.
Verso L'Alto:
L'Alto was basically DiMirio number 2, and quite as dominant as the first one. His 10 Pro Bowl appearances are almost as high as DiMirio. Among Tight Ends, L'Alto has essentially the 2nd most of everything, most importantly 2nd most catches in history.
I mean, why pass up an opportunity to give myself more airtime, right? these two will always be compared to each other, and I think DiMirio's two additional pro bowls will will always give him at least a slight edge in most peoples' minds.
One thing I like to add though is that blocking is an essential part of a TE's contribution to the team. And in that department, I think L'Alto clearly distinguishes himself. He had 404 pancakes and only allowed 4 sacks while DiMirio only had 290 pancakes while allowing 19 sacks. Also, L'Alto never fumbled the ball while DiMirio did probably 3 times (could be 6, they're recorded weird). But that's starting to get a little nit-picky.
One other interesting trivia that i didn't know until I just looked up their stats is that they each had one rushing touchdown.
