I'm probably not the only Philly player writing about this teammate of ours. He's set himself apart with his leadership abilities and his willingness to sacrifice and do what's needed to be done for his team. I speak of course, of Defensive Lineperson of the Year candidate Brock Phoenix. Phoenix has set himself apart from other players in the position in many ways: First I want to get ahead of the potential criticism and say I know his raw defensive numbers aren't very impressive. He's only gotten 4 tackles and a pass deflection on the season, but what Phoenix does that other linemen seem incapable of, is rack up passing yards and touchdowns. No other lineman is even close to his production, he literally is outperforming all other defensive players by a factor of INFINITY. Sure, he's turned the ball over far more than any other defensive player, but he's also leading the position in touchdowns by a margin. And I love a defensive player who can still summon the instincts to find the end zone. Phoenix is an unconventional player, and a lot of times they get slept on in awards votes, but I want the committee to open their minds, and understand that's he's just playing the game in a way that no one else has ever done before, and that's why Brock Phoenix deserves a shout for DLotY.
