prompt Wrote:S24 is nearly halfway over, and that means that the races for award season have begun in earnest. In 200 words or more, describe one or more players on your team (which can include yourself) and why you think that they are currently in contention for a particular award. Are their stats on pace to break records, or are they simply leading the pack? Is their efficiency or volume noteworthy? Would they possibly contend for one of the major awards as well?
Easton Cole, the Austin QB, is having a great passing year through the first nine games of the season. His passer rating of 91.4 leads the league and is his personal best since S18, his third year in the NSFL/ISFL. That passing success also shows up in the team stats where the Copperheads have the most points scored in the ASFC. If he manages to keep that up, I think he has a decent chance at getting QB of the year, though I think MVP will be hard to pull off unless he improves. I think keeping control of the ball has been the key to Cole's success - his 3 interceptions is the league low. His interception rate of one interception per 95 attempts is also lowest, so he's not just benefiting from a run-first offense.
That being said, he's clearly leading the pack rather than heading towards records. A 91.4 rating would only put him 4th on the career rating mark, and he's way behind Armstrong's record 2036 season's 109.3 rating. Similarly, I think that getting the MVP will be hard unless he improves some and helps the Copperheads actually put away some of these games. We're 4-5 now with a +29 point differential - MVP quality performers can turn personal success into team success. I think there is room for Cole to get there, but I think a player from a top playoff-qualifying team has a higher chance if our record doesn't improve.
