As we reach the midway point of the season there are a number of London Royals players who are showing great numbers which may well put them in line for awards come the end of the season.
First round pick DE Albert Ruschmann ties the lead in tackles for a loss in the whole league with 10. The one real blot on his paper right now is a lack of registered sacks, but I’d expect that to change over the coming weeks as the player is working hard on the training field each day. If this happens he will put himself right into contention for Defensive Lineman of the year award – fingers crossed.
Now we all know that kickers are people too, and the London Royals have one of the best on their hands. Jake Fencik is 100% from his 15 XCs and his only FG misses have been ones over 40 yards. As a punter, Fencik has broken 2000 yards, taking 6 of his 49 punts inside the 20. I’d expect this form to continue and for him to be in contention for both Kicker and Punter of the year awards.
Finally, Linebackers. Now ignoring my own personal achievements (not bad for a 10th rounder) there are two big hitters in the London Royals locker room who I’d expect to be running each other close all year. Busch Light is showing a right turn of form recently, hitting 14 of his 60 tackles in the narrow loss to the Kansas City Coyotes. That said, my best bet for the Linebacker of the Year award is Juan Domine. He’s the league leading LB for TFLs with five and joint leader in the whole league for sacks with six. Could this form lead to a challenge for overall Defensive player of the Year? If he keeps it up, who knows.
