Is Mo Magic playing well enough to win OL of the Year? 10 games into the season, Magic has accumulated 49 pancakes and 0 sacks allowed. This is good enough for 6th best in the league. While 6th best does not seem like an award winning stat line, let’s look at some important factors.
Mamba has yet to allow a sack this season. This is a huge one. Pest, a tackle for the Sabrecats, has 54 pancakes through 10 games, but has also allowed a shocking 6 sacks allowed. Bryon Dolls of the Baltimore Hawks has allowed just 1 sack, and has 56 pancakes, while reigning OL of the Year winner Bruce Buckley has 57 pancakes and has allowed 1 sack.
Now these numbers may lead you to think Mamba is quite some distance behind, but we do have to remember that Magic missed the first game of the season with stomach issues. Accounting for the lost game, Magic is averaging 5.4 pancakes per game, with is only slightly below Dolls (5.4 pancakes per game) and Buckley (5.6 pancakes per game).
However, all of this pales in comparison to the league leaders. Lazlo Forty-Two is the current league leader, with 69 pancakes (6.9 pancakes per game), followed by Givussefaire Rubbe at 64 pancakes (6.4 pancakes per game). With Magic being so far off the top, even with the missing game accounted for, it’s hard to say that he has a good chance at winning OL of the Year. But what we do know is that Magic has had a stellar first season in his new position, having yet to make a mistake so far.
