You wanna talk awards? That's an easy one because there are a number of guys on my squad in San Jose that I firmly believe have legitimate chances to bring home some hardware, other than the Ultimus Trophy of course. We'll start with our Offensive Performance of the Year candidate, Jamar Lackson. Despite the team losing what can only be described as a flukish sort of shootout with Hahalua of Honolulu, Lackson found the endzone quite often. So much so, in fact, that he's lucky the groundskeeper didn't charge him rent. The 2nd year running back hit paydirt not 3, not 4, but FIVE times! Do you believe that, 5 times?! The first 4 came on the ground, while the last came through the air with just a minute left in the game to bring the Cardiac Cats within field goal, but unfortunately they couldn't quite complete the comeback. Now, will the awards committee take points off because we lost the game? That's definitely a possibility, but I really hope not. It's not as if any of these touchdowns came in any sort of "garbage time" situation. The first 2 each put us in the lead in the first half & the final 3 all brought us within a single score of tying the game. Also, I know I'm already past my word count, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention our Defensive Performance of the Year candidate, Philip Stein, for his 3 interception game against Baltimore. Somehow the rookie safety managed to pick off Hawks QB Chika Fujiwara 3 times, not only in the same game, but in a span of 3:18, one of which was a pick 6. If he doesn't win the award, the committee should be disbanded.
