Through 10 games of the S24 ISFL season, I believe that a clear leader has emerged for the linebacker of the year award. While the Baltimore Hawks have had their share of struggles this season, Derred De Ville has been an impact player game in and game out. He currently is tied for the league lead in sacks with 9, alongside Galf Wilf and Jordan Andrews. He also has a solid 68 tackles as well as an interception and a forced fumble. However the most impressive part of De Ville’s season so far is probably the impact he’s had in pass coverage. De Ville is currently leading the league in passes defended with an insane 19 through just 10 games – no other player has more than 16 so far. While he doesn’t have a huge number of turnovers this season, his massive production across the board makes him, in my opinion, a lock for linebacker of the year, and definitely someone to consider for the defensive player of the year as well. While there are players with much higher tackle totals, such as Dex Kennedy and Mike Hockertz, they both have under 5 combined sacks and PDs (De Ville has 28), and also don’t have a huge number of turnovers. There are other linebackers that have had fantastic seasons thus far, such as Galf Wilf and Haha Mango-Panda, however their production clearly does not quite up to De Ville’s.
