It’s exciting here in Philly for our first practice as an expansion team. Prior to the drafts, only a few season one players had even seen the field, so really it was a learning experience for everyone. Getting assignments, running through some drills, meeting teammates for the first time in many cases.
Lincoln Jefferson is getting used to his new legs, and Fox North juked him for a great 1-handed catch from Jameis Christ. Damien Kroetch and Hunter Mason caught a couple passes each along with Paul DiMirio while Tyler Oles and Kristoffer O’Sullivan tried to pick them off, with some success. Perry Tucker, Luke Washington, and Donovan Maric all spent time with Arby Krimlaw learning some tricks.
Some of the players seemed a little unsure of Jazzy J at first, but when she flattened Luke Washington during a drill, everyone shut up real fast. Later, Ottokar Von Gerhardt challenged her to an armwrestle, lost badly, and had to take a lap around the field (yelling in German the whole time). They’ve been best friends ever since.
The day ended with Omar Wright challenging everyone to a race, but no one came close to beating him despite great effort, and a valiant attempt by Micah Hendrix to catch him as he ran past – Hendrix might as well have been a statue for how fast Omar shot past. There is a lot of room to grow here, but optimism is in the air and the team is gelling nicely – hopefully the preseason will allow us to work some of the kinks out. It’s a great day in Philadelphia.
