Hullo! Just popping in with some post draft insight. There were a lot of factors in our decision to move up here. First off, let's look at the trade
Ashley Owens is a massive part of Colorado's culture and family. We love him in COL, and he is forever going to be a part of our team, and our legacy. That being said, we couldn't pass up the chance to bring in the premier Running Back in Darrel Williams during Free Agency. Owens was happy to be our RB3 at that point, but I know he wants to make the Hall of Fame. The only team we ever considered trading him to was New York, because of his connection with Woelkers, who I know will give him the playing time he needs to crack the Top 5 OA All-Purpose Yardage goal.
Kirkby was an easy decision for us as well, and is simply the unfortunate result of progression. The goal is to always get younger, and to get better. And we had that opportunity in Rusfan who is ready to play in the ISFL. Despite being Safety of the Year, Kirkby just didn't have a starting spot on our super strong line-up.
13 OA was our 1st rounder, so that was always going to be a part of this deal. 41 OA was our 3rd rounder, which we actually had 2 of (we had CHI's 3rd). It made sense for us to package that pick knowing we had another one earlier in the round. Plus it allowed us to get NYS' S26 R2, which allowed us to use COL's S26 R2 to move up in the draft to take SDCore.
I had a few sources confirm that Arizona we're looking to pick Katarn with their first, which made trading up essential. Baltimore were committed to staying where there were, and we were unsure if Sarasota would give us a 'better' deal. With 2 other DE going right in front of him as well, it became abundantly clear that we needed to make a move, or lose him.
Hope that gives you some insight!
