It’s been a pretty rough season here in Yellowknife. The next two teams on the Yellowknife schedule are Colorado and Sarasota, the top two teams in the NSFC. The Butchers aren’t pushovers, either. With a current record of 6-7, the Wraiths are a long shot to make the playoffs this season. Obviously, the team hopes that the chips will fall in just the right places so we can make a playoff run. Even if we don’t make the playoffs, there are a ton of reasons to be excited about the Wraiths future. The offensive side of the ball is composed of young, high earning players, and not really any holes to fill in the next few seasons. We could use another good wide receiver, as one of our current players is IA, but not really any other glaring weaknesses. The defensive side of the ball is a little rougher, however. One of our cornerbacks will be entering their second season of regression, and one of the starting defensive tackles retired unexpectedly mid-season. One of the things that has really hampered the Wraiths this season is poor luck on special teams. Multiple kickoff return touchdowns have put the team on the wrong side of the scoreboard this season. The Wraiths have two good prospects to be called up from the DSFL next season, a tight end and a linebacker. Expect to see the teams draft focus to be on the defensive side of the ball. Overall, while this season hasn’t gone as hoped, the Wraiths have the pieces in place to be a competitive team for the next few seasons.
