From the outside looking in, the last few years of San Jose’s success might look like a continuing run of good luck. Critics of the team have said that San Jose does not have the physical talents of other teams in the ISFL. And in some ways these critics are correct. While it is true that San Jose may not have the veteran talent that teams like Orange County or Colorado have, the strength of the Sabercats is in their young stars. Players like Monty Jack and Jamar Lackson are leading the San Jose offense through their consistency. Being able to make long drives on the offensive side of the ball allows for the stellar Sabercats defense to stay rested and refreshed to dominate opposing teams. Rising stars Lawrence Bass, George Fisher, and Philip Stein are huge playmakers on the defensive side of the ball that have led the Sabercats to rank 1st in rushing yards per game and a spot in the playoffs. This isn’t even mentioning the great veteran leadership that we’ve had even during down years in San Jose. Leaders like Tyron Brackenridge and Deondre Thomas-Fox were here before the championships and have stayed after, continuing to provide a fantastic locker room presence to new draft picks and young playmakers.
