I could not have asked for a better online community than what I've experienced so far in ISFL. When I first joined, I wasn't sure if I would take to the league and if I'd ultimately stick around, but man has that been completely put to bed. I was so fortunate to join up with the Seawolves as a free agent my first year and they were the perfect fit for me as someone completely brand new to sim world. They answered tons of questions, helped me update, and made sure I knew what I was doing, all while being the chillest group of folks. And thanks to that, I've grown to love ISFL with a passion and have really enjoyed spending time not only on media stuff, but just hanging out in locker rooms throughout the day. And all this could not have happened at a better time for me. The pandemic has taken a mental toll on all of us, but this place has really helped to give me a healthy distraction from some things while also helping me feel useful during the shutdown. Not to mention all the friends I've made here after just a short time and those I'll continue to make. An underrated thing about this league that I'm thankful for is the other sim leagues that I've joined since ISFL. If not for the rookie mentors, great Norfolk people, and all the wonderful community, I never would've ventured over to PBE or SHL, which has led to more friends, more fun content, and more ways I'm making myself useful while the world is seemingly falling apart. ISFL will forever be that first starting off point for me and will always hold a special place in my life from here on out.
Another thing about this place that isn't quite as sappy is the fact that it's just flat out fun. Seeing my little dot running around making tackles and watching my teammates play is awesome to watch. It's a great escape that also happens to be one of the most enjoyable hobbies I've ever had. We've got trading cards, mock drafts, twitter, and so many different things that you'd have to just be miserable to not love this place. That's probably why the media, research, and everything else don't seem like work or chores to me. I legitimately enjoy every part of this league, to the point where I'm almost waiting for the bottom to drop out. As if something this fun can't be that way indefinitely, but I have no reason to think that'll happen. If my dot doesn't play well or if my team looses a bunch of games, so what? The community is crazy fun and I just don't see my affection for this place waning any time soon.
Here's to 25 more years and hundreds of new friends!
