I like many users on the site, found the NSFL as it was known back then through a Reddit post back at the beginning of the pandemic outbreak. Unlike so many other users however, I opted not to immediately join the league, but rather saved that initial Reddit post, for something to be looked at later. It took me several months to finally round back to that post, but when I did I began to look into the league and see what it was all about.
I'll be honest, initially the league didn't really appeal to me. It looked like a neat idea, but having watched some of the youtube videos and a tutorial start up video... it just didn't really click for me. I don't know what expectations I had coming in, but the whole "dots" thing just didn't do it for me. As I prepared to exit the site, and thus end a fake football career before it even truly began, I noticed a link on the home page that read “Podcasts” this I found intriguing, as Podcasts have always been one of my preferred forms of media. I opened it up, and decided to listen to one of the more recent submissions there… While I didn’t really understand what the people in the podcast were talking about, I could understand that they all seemed to care about the league and enjoyed it…. And that was enough to spike my interest.
Since that time, this league has been a fantastic experience and escape from the Covid bullshit of 2020. I’ve met some really incredible people here, and am lucky enough to consider some of them friends. Likewise, the league has allowed me to explore the world of podcasting in a way I hadn’t thought possible before joining. I don’t know that I’ll ever do anything more with it, but it was a great experience to try something new and see if I enjoyed it. GMing in the league has also been a fun experience that I am thankful for. While I can’t say yet that I feel like I’m doing a great job with it, it’s been an awesome experience and something I look forward to continuing to get better at as I continue to grow in the league. All in all, I am incredibly grateful for this league and the immense amount of joy its brought me. Sure, it can be a bit of a pain in the ass at times, but at the end of the day, its proven to be very much worth the annoyances. Love you all!
