It will be interesting to see how the new builds work in the new sim. Currently, kick returners are predominately defensive backs with the remaining being wide receivers and running backs. Looking at the new builds, it appears that there may be a shift away from using defensive backs as returners as wide receivers and running backs have builds which at first glance appear to be better suited for return duties.
Speed, Agility and Endurance are 3 important attributes when it comes to kick returns in DDSPF 16. While there may be a difference in DDSPF 21, looking at those 3 attributes it would seem like the Receiving Back and Slot Receiver archetypes could potentially be the best archetypes for a returner as they have a good combination of Speed (both 95), Agility (both 95) and Endurance (both 90). For defensive backs, corners are capped at 80 for endurance for all cornerback archetypes and the highest agility cap is 90. For safeties, the Centre Fielder build appears the best suited for return duties with the Speed cap at 95 and Endurance at 90. However, Agility is capped at 90, 5 less than the Receiving Back and Slot Receiver archetypes. So with that, we could very well see wide receivers and running backs hold down more of those return positions in the future.
With the addition of traits, it would appear that Season 21 and Season 22 players who have earned well stand to gain the most immediately as they are likely to be in a position to purchase one or two traits while also having the major attributes maxed out heading into Season 27. TPE that would ordinarily be banked or used on attributes not regarded as important for a position could now be used to purchase traits which could potentially yield better performances for those players. Teams with high earning Season 21 and 22 players could be in a good spot.
