Godfrey King is a big proponent of the importance of keeping items special to a player in one’s own locker. Before any game, the locker is where you’ll find King, quietly looking over and seemingly meditating with those items that are close to him. As part of this special program, we get to take a look into what these items are. Buried under all the team shirts and jerseys, the first item prominently on display in King’s locker is a team picture of his Philadelphia high school’s state championship team (won his senior year against an extremely competitive field). This item is very important to King, as he says it’s the first time he truly understood the grit and determination required to take it all. Within the frame of the state championship photo, a smaller picture of King with his mom can be found, that one for obvious motivational purposes. The final item in King’s locker designed to pump him up is a simple one – a seemingly standard whistle. That of his former coach, King says the whistle reminds him to stay disciplined while also giving it his all every night, as his coach promised him not too long ago that he wouldn’t miss for the world the opportunity to watch Godfrey King become an NSFL legend.
