I applied hoping to help improve communication within the league, whereas Swanty applied with the aim of making the league we love more fun for everyone. We have been able to speak our mind, share our ideas and get support in doing them, for example, watch out for a more informal newsletter series coming soon trying to highlight the going-ons of HO more.
As interns, we are able to talk freely about any topic that comes up from discussion. So far we have shared our thoughts on rule proposals, rulebook adjustments, punishments, expansion, any queries that GMs make, general league maintenance and discussion points, such as the recent rise of cap space. We don’t have votes when it comes to making the official decisions, and we don’t have access to all the same channels as a full HO member, but our viewpoints are just as valid and taken on board as those of full HO members. Our ideas and opinions have been taken forward by HO on a handful of occasions.
One of the biggest jobs you do as an intern is the Department Inventory, checking in with the head of each department and relaying back to HO how the department has been doing and if there’s anything HO can help with. It has served us greatly, given us a great opportunity to get to know the department heads a bit better and really deepened our understanding of the league and the nuances that go with it.
Being an intern is a priceless experience, and we both highly recommend it! With two dear members of HO leaving, there might be an opportunity around the corner to apply for this experience. Not only does it give you greater insight into the league, it will help you grow as a user while being given the opportunity to help make the league a better place.
