I'm somewhat torn on this one. My absolute favourite play of the season has been our good friend Marlon Brando running down a running back who had already passed the defensive backs and making a touchdown saving tackle. That’s no small feat for a 300lb defensive tackle. It was a full-on “Larry Allen Moment”. However, that has been covered here already, by a couple of my colleagues from London.
As such, that leaves me with one other highlight — which is somewhat personal. In my first start for the Royals, against Norfolk, we managed to generate an awful lot of pressure on their QB — Clarke aka Bex. On one one play, Gavin Leclerc was on a CB blitz, while I had managed to go almost completely unblocked and began charging towards the quarterback. Clarke rolled out to her left in an effort to evade me but by this point Leclerc had already closed in from the opposite side and was for all intents and purposes just waiting there, with arms wide open.
Leclerc got his only sack of the season from that play but I couldn’t stop laughing at the sight of a rookie QB running for her life, as her two helpless lineman waddled after her in an effort to save her from the inevitable sack that was about to take place. Truly a beautiful moment.
