Boy did Dexter Hall save one of his top performances for the playoffs. This past weeks playoff game against the Portland Pythons ended in an exciting fashion (for the Coyotes at least) and it was largely thanks to the efforts of the defensive leader, Dexter Hall. With a stat line of 5 tackles, a sack, a pass defensed, and an interception, Hall was all over the field. His first big play occurred early in the 2nd quarter with Portland driving deep into the redzone. On a 2nd and 10, Hall blitzed off the edge at blazing speed, giving QB LeBron James III no time to make his reads. For a decisive 11 yard sack, the pythons were faced with a 3rd and 21 and despite a solid 14 yard gain, they had to settle for a field goal. In a game that was closer than the score suggests, holding the pythons to just 3 points in this situation was monumental.
His next big play came on the very final play of the 1st half. The pythons were sitting at their own 37 yard line with only 18 seconds left. Everything was pointing in the direction of the time running out before Portland got the chance to score. However, big play RB Roman had other plans. The Coyotes have experienced first-hand how explosive Roman can be (see their second match up). On this play Roman got the ball and broke through the line as he raced down the open field towards the endzone. Not on Hall's watch. Known for stopping these big plays, Dexter Hall caught up to Roman D.K. Metcalf style tackling him short of the endzone to end the half squandering Portlands chance to add to their lead.
Hall's final big play was arguably his best. After a pathetic punt by the Coyotes for 28 yards, Portland was looking to put the game away with their 7 game lead. Lined up at midfield, QB LeBron James III dropped back to pass but Hall jumped the route for the interception! The Coyotes were set up at midfield and Troy Abed was able to lead the offense down the field to tie the game!
