15) Write about another sim league you are in and which parts of it you enjoy. If you are only in the ISFL, write about your ideas for a sim league with another sport.
The SHL is my main sim league, and I was brought into the sim sports world by peer pressure, as my gaming friends had joined a season or two prior and wouldn’t shut up about it, so I had to check it out for myself. My player, Rikard Bjerg, plays for the San Francisco Pride in the Simulation Hockey League (SHL), and he just finished up his first season in the big leagues, helping the Pride reach their first playoffs in several seasons. He also played for the Maine Timber in the SMJHL, helping them reach the finals once and have a strong performance in the regular season in 2 other seasons. I’m also the co-GM of the Pride, so I have a management role within the league, allowing me to help the team progress through a rebuild that was started by previous management before the current GM (thatguy91) and I took over. On top of that, I’m also the SMJHL Simmer, which has been an excellent experience so far and I look forward to continuing for a least a few more seasons. Not only has the simming job allowed me to gain the experience of managing a sim, but the daily interaction I get to have with the views in both Twitch and YouTube chat has been amazing. I love a lot of things about the SHL. I love the culture that we’ve built in the San Francisco locker room, which just a few months ago was about as dead as a server could be. Through the work of thatguy91 and myself, and the draftees we’ve brought in, there is new life in the Discord that makes me very optimistic about our future in the league. I also really like the automated banking system the SHL uses, which allows us to purchase training and season coaching all at the press of a button while keeping track of the bank balances automatically. If the ISFL is working on something like that, or is thinking about it, it would encourage me to earn even more money. I don’t know a lot about hockey in real life, so being around people who live and breathe hockey has been an interesting and enjoyable experience. While I don’t think they’ve convinced me to get into the sport quite yet, I wouldn’t be as opposed to watching it on tv as I would have been just over a year ago (before I joined the site).
16) The bank now accepts ISFL currency in exchange for real money – every ISFL dollar counts as $0.50 in the real world. How much money would you exchange, and what would you spend it on?
Seeing as of right now I’m extremely poor here in the ISFL, I’d first need to work on earning some money. I’m likely going to utilize the 1.5x draft media bonus here in the next week, so that’s at least a good starting point. After that’s secured (and I’ve gotten enough to pay for training/equipment for a while), I think the smartest thing to do would be to pay off my debt. I’m currently sitting on quite a large amount of college and credit card debt, and it would be easy to convert a small amount of ISFL bucks to pay off that. The next thing I would do would be to invest in both cryptocurrency and the stock market (though likely through a retirement fund of some sort so that I’m set once I eventually stop participating in the ISFL). It would make a tin of sense to put the money away for the future so that I’m not tempted to spend it all on hookers and blow like I imagine some people would. Even at the $0.50 exchange rate, a little bit of money can go a very long way, so any decent amount being transferred would make a significant impact on most users' lives.
28) We’ve now finished a whole season in the new sim. What do you think about it? Are things working well for your player and team, or are there changes you think might be made?
The new sim was great for Dallas this season, as we ended up winning the Ultimini. But that can’t all be placed on the new engine, as the GMs in Dallas did an excellent job in making sure the team was ready to make a run deep into the playoffs. I really like the new engine, and I think that the complaints people have will eventually die down as we get more used to how it works. The one thing for me that I don’t like is how quickly the player stats rotate on and off the screen. It could be an entire quarter before you’re able to glimpse how your player is doing if you don’t happen to be staring at the stats screen when it switches over. I really like how active management has been with dealing with player balance, and the mid-season changes were necessary to maintain the integrity of the sim. I’m hoping that they continue to monitor the situations they changed in order to bring balance to the positions that were changed the most, namely Running Back. As someone who is hoping to be a receiving TE, getting some love by reducing the effectiveness of RBs is a step in the right direction.
