Bork Björnsson was eating his daily dose of Kæstur hákarl and watching ESPN 8 when he heard the news: The Wraiths had traded for the rights to Matt James.
Matt James, as most of the NSFL community knows, was at the center of a contract “controversy” when he was allegedly insulted and berated by the Philadelphia Liberty GMs during rookie contract negotiations.
Bork Björnsson’s first thought was that perhaps Matt James didn’t want to play for the Liberty in the first place? After all, Matt James had requested a second-year player option, and by reading between the lines Bork figured Matt James was hoping to leave the Liberty after just one year (it was at this point during the contract negotiations that the Liberty front office allegedly insulted Matt James).
Of course, there was a second possibly: Maybe Matt James was just extremely selfish and wanted to take the contract money and run to his next big contract.
Bork had learned during his time with the Wraiths that there is often much more going on behind the scenes of these league controversies. After all, he now shares a locker room with Kevin Cushing, one of the more controversial players in the league, who has turned out to be a fantastic team mate who puts the team above everything else.
Seconds later, Bork saw the announcement that Matt James had already signed his contract with the Wraiths… for the league minimum! Bork turned around and saw Matt James walk through the locker room handing out “FAILadelphia Liberty” t-shirts to all of the Wraiths players, who began cheering and chanting “FAIL – A – DELPHIA.” Bork smiled to himself … if there was one thing the Wraiths front office excels at, it’s bringing in the league’s supposed “Selfish Assholes” and turning them into one big happy family.
