This concept honestly makes so little sense for Schell. He lives in Germany most of the year, yet is asked to go back and coach in Lexington, KY. But what you're not thinking about is that Schell is a sucker for this kind of thing. Investing in the next generation. So, even though it made no sense and he got in a little trouble for taking the gig, Schell made a quick trip to Kentucky to coach his high school team against a tough regional opponent. While Schell was unable to coach the whole team effectively, he gave a speech to the linebackers in the room. "You are the quarterbacks of the defense," he was heard saying. "They may get all the glory, but for half of the game, you are in charge." His coaching led to a new found intensity on the defensive side of the ball, and while the offense was unable to gain a whole lot of traction, they did just enough to earn a victory while the defense choked the life out of the opponents. The final score was 13-6 in favor of Schell's team. When asked if he would be willing to take the job full time, Schell said, "My time in the ISFL isn't done quite yet. My best years of my career are still ahead of me. But if the spot comes up when I'm ready to hang up my cleats, give me a call."
