Being the illegitimate son of world-famous food celebrity, Guy Fieri, as well as being raised by restaurant owners, Doy Fieri (formerly Vance Slattery) has had a passion for food his entire life. The food community is a tight-knit one that always looks to help out their community, and his family restaurant back home in Minneapolis, Slatt's Soul Food, was a big fixture in the Wenonah neighborhood. So, in addition to a lifelong love of food, Fieri also grew up with a love of service.
When he was traded to Philadelphia, one of the first thing Fieri did was talked to local leaders about how to ingrain himself in the fabric of the community and learn how he could help those in need around him. To do his part, Fieri launched his own organization, Fieri Feeding Families (he's a sucker for alliteration), an organization with the goal of helping eliminate childhood hunger. When he was coming up with names for the foundation, people told him that the name he chose didn't sound like a foundation that helped children, but he had already decided he was a fan of FFF and didn't want to change it. He can be a diva sometimes.
The aim of FFF is to help pay for children school lunches, because everyone knows that kids with full stomachs perform better at school than those that are hungry.*
