I am told to help a charity, but I have always loved camping and visiting national parks as a kid with my family. The public lands are important part of our country that too many people take for granted or even destroy with over use, misguided ideals, and littering. I would put together a volunteer day with the nearest public land for the community to give back in a meaningful way while possibly learning more about the natural ecosystems, plants, wildlife and functions of the Forest Service, National Park, Fish & Wildlife or even the BLM. These agencies have the difficlut task of managing millions or acres of land for both wildlife protection and also public recreation and they never get enough funding to do everything that is necessary. Maybe its a day of planting trees for reforestation or fence building to protect sensitive lands from public use. Maybe its a national effort where people from every city meet at their forest to work together and not just for orange county otters fans. Far to many people, even those with good intentions cause harm to our public lands because they don’t understand the methods or processes that the agencies use. Example is of tree huggers removing timber flagging to protect trees from being cut down, expect the flagging was there to protect rare and endangered plants. Removing the flaggin actually caused a local population of species to be decimited and destroyed.
