Being a relatively new team due to expansion gives me the opportunity to project a little bit into the future and pick a player who I think is destined for great things as their career progresses. And yes, New York already has a handful of players (Ashley Owens, Bubba Thumper, Leon McDavid just to name a few) that could and should have a statue built for them. But lets look forward a bit and pick a player who is well on their way to being immortalized in bronze in the Big Apple.
Captain Rogers is a shining example of what it means to be a New York SIlverback. His play on the field (and his leadership off of it) speak volumes to his work ethic as well as his character. Rogers started his career as a backup to Ashley Owens but was ready, willing, and able to grab the reins when Owens retired. Rogers has consistently been in the conversation for ISFL Running Back of the Year and has been named Team Captain on multiple occasions. On the field Rogers has dazzled, consistently putting up big yardage numbers both on the ground and in the receiving game. He is truly a dual threat.
As the years progress it is hard to see a future in which Rogers doesn't continue to shine. He has already amassed over 1000 all purpose yards this season, as he has in previous years, and I believe the trend will continue for him. One day, far from now, when Rogers finally hangs up his cleats he will go down as one of the best players of his generation and one of the best Silverbacks New York has ever known. Get that man a statue.
