The Austin Copperheads have had quite an up and down history. From the beginning of the franchise, where the team went 0-13, to winning the Ultimus 5 seasons later, which was an impressive feat, Austin has continued that trend of up and down seasons to the present day. Last season? They made the Ultimus? This season with a better roster? Currently 3-9-1, with no chance of winning the title.
With such an interesting history in their decade of existence, there are many choices to consider for a statue. There’s Mako Mendonaca, the do everything Running Back that was a consistent threat to score. And let’s not forget about Rod Tidwell, the best Wide Receiver in team history that lead them to the Ultimus.
As far as players go, however, the only choice is Easton Cole, the long time Quarterback and MVP of the Ultimus win. Cole wasn’t just the best QB in Austin history, he was one of the best of all time. Cole will eventually be enshrined in the Hall of Fame, joining names like Boss and Borkman as the best ever.
But even still, Cole isn’t the answer.
No, the statue in front of the Copperheads Stadium will belong to the man that made this all happen: Charlie Law, the first General Manager in team history. Without him, Austin football doesn’t exist. He built the foundation for not only the Ultimus win, but for how this franchise is still run today.
He was the absolute best, and I love him. @AdamS (252)
