Tatsu Nakamura was always a good student, but as the son of a professional athlete and an athlete himself from a young age it was clear to him and his family that his best path to happiness and greatness would be in sports. In his earliest years in Japan and even after moving to America he put most of his focus into kendo and baseball. It wasn't until he found the sport in middle school that he found a love and passion for football. It was already clear to him at that point that he didn't share his father's love for baseball, and though he keeps up with kendo even to this day, there isn't a solid professional avenue in the sport.
If he hadn't found football, he could very well have chosen to explore other combat sports, channeling his skill in kendo into a new but similar sport. Combining his natural speed and precision that we know him for in this reality into that focus and burst that he loved in kendo, Tatsu Nakamura would begin training and pursuing a professional career in fencing. I'd bargain that he'd likely find himself favoring saber and would eventually compete for his birth nation of Japan to bring the country their first Olympic gold in the sport.
