Life is full of choices and Teddy Murphy has managed to make all the wrong ones. Originally intending to declare for the draft immediately Murphy instead missed the draft altogether and wound up being claimed off waivers after entering the league undrafted. But before botching the execution of the decision beyond recognition Murphy did a lot of soul searching before ultimately deciding to pursue a career on the gridiron. Like is mother and his mother's mother before her Murphy has a passion for teaching and was strongly considering going that route to surround himself with peers that are intellectually on his level in a second grade classroom. However, clearly Murphy chose football and as a family man it really was an easy decision that came down to the unfortunate state of teachers' compensation in the US. Murphy intends to have a family one day and the money that comes with a football career means that generations of Murphys to come will be able to live in comfort and not struggle financially. That was an easy tradeoff to make especially considering the inevitability of one particularly smart second grader exposing Murphy's darkest secret. He never learned how to read English and his understanding of Japanese is barely beyond a middle school level.
