Sal Ami has had a better than expected first half of the season. I am really excited and happy about it. The biggest thing Sal is going to be work on in the second half of the season is his run after the catch. Right now Sal is operating as a safety blanket for the offense and is recording quite a few catches each game for short yardage.
Moving forward we need more yards after the catch to help move the chains. We want to be a player that other teams’ defensive coordinators have to game plan for each week. Working on agility will help us get there. Right now we are getting our hands up to par, but otherwise we are doing agility drills.
To gain agility, Sal will be doing training that only Sal can do. Riding a bike with a hot dog attached to the front, jumping in the pool and having a beer on the other side to incentivize quicker swimming. These aren’t helping his weight issues but are some of the only ways to keep him motivated. His favorite agility drill is doing quick side steps at a buffet table going side to side adding more and more to his plate.
Hopefully these drills help him get his yards after reception up in the second half of the season.
