Glenn Smart has been progressing nicely since he entered the DSFL. Despite moving to an entirely new position, his overall role remains the same: Find the ball carrier and utterly destroy them. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a quarterback, a running back or a wide receiver. Everyone’s a target. Smart was among the very best London has ever produced in terms of prying the ball from the opposition's hands, usually through sheer force alone — racking up 7 forced fumbles and 2 recoveries during his brief tenure with the British side.
However, since joining Arizona in the ISFL, Smart has only forced 1 fumble and even then, he failed to recover it. A small part of me would like to believe this is down to some form of adhesive being used by the opposition but honestly, Smart just isn’t quite hitting with the same conviction that he did. A little too much respect is being shown to the players on the field. If this is to change, Smart needs to get more competitive. He needs to begin lowering the shoulder with a little more “oomph” and really drive through it. So, that’s where we need to see improvement and that’s where we’re going to be focusing our efforts over the course of the next season or two.
