One thing that is always important in the defensive end’s arsenal is how quickly they can get to the quarterback. Not everyone gets to face off against the weak offensive tackles when they become a rookie, and Jason Garciaparra has not been lucky enough to face any easy competition. With that in mind, agility and strength have been Jason’s primary goals with improvement through the end of his rookie season on route to his first bonus that is not as far away as it might seem. His rookie season also has not been a total failure, but he remains a quiet defensive player on an otherwise solid Chicago defense that can hang for three quarters with almost any team in the league. He has made a couple clutch tackles but the improvement on his blitzing power is something that will change him to a respectable monster and a proper Butcher. Lining up with some of the best blitzers in the league has kept Jason hungry and ready to learn what he is missing in order to take the next step. By the end of the season and before his sophomore year, Jason believes that he can become a strong component of the Chicago rebuild once the new quarterback comes in.
