As a Linebacker that specializes in pass coverage, and a savvy veteran of the league, Bass’ coverage stats have been incredibly lackluster. He’s managed to be a tackle machine, but that’s been the case for most of his career. With only 1 INT and 4 PDs Bass seems to be more of a bystander than a participant. He’s done his best to impart leadership and advice to his teammates, and that seems to have worked well for some. Long time teammate Rickie Vaughne has had a renaissance in the coverage game, stacking 27 PDs and 4 INTs; 3 of this taken back the other way for a score. Bass has always preached patience to his teammates, and Vaughne has taken that to heart this season, picking his spots to great effect.
While it may be too late to win any awards this season, Bass does plan to work with some of his younger teammates to try and increase his speed a little bit. He may be getting older, but he’s always stayed in incredible shape, so it’s not unbelievable that he could manage to find one final gear in an attempt to give the cats the last of what he has to offer on the football field.
